Meryl Streep - George Segal - Joan Cusack - Warren Beatty - Michelle Pfeiffer - Richard Burton - Kim Basinger - John Leguizamo - Dolly Parton - Raul Julia - Ellen Barkin - Josh Hartnett - Patricia Arquette

Question: (1) Identify the common bond linking the above players, and (2) provide the names of two additional performers who qualify for the list who DID receive Oscar nominations for playing characters with that common bond.

HOW TO SUBMIT ANSWERS:

Send your answer using the header "TTQ-320" to JMSTREEP@aol.com. Responses must be received by Saturday 10 p.m. EST, Nov. 24. Follow-up replies are welcome, but only your first answer is accepted.

LAST WEEK'S QUESTION
QUESTION NO. 319 - THE CORPSE WAS WET

It's a film by a very famous director with a plot that includes the following:

* a blond woman named Marion who absconds with a large sum of money
* an important scene set in Phoenix
* a young bachelor living in a large country house
* a second woman who arrives in search of her missing sister
* a private detective who, while searching for Marion, ascends a staircase, is murdered, and falls backward to the floor below
* a scene where Marion signs her name using an alias
* a scene where Marion chooses a new automobile at a car lot
* a husband who was possibly poisoned by his wife
* a body hidden in a cellar
* a scene where Marion learns a pet canary has dropped dead

Identify both (a) the name of the film described above and (b) the name of the performer who murdered the private detective.

ANSWER: No winners this week, but applause to Frank Miller, who, although naming the wrong performer playing the murderer, correctly cited Francois Truffaut's "Mississippi Mermaid" (with all of its "Psycho" references) as the right film.
